Derek Webb - Wedding Dress

Hey all. Downloaded a song this morning that is one of the best I've heard all year! Big call but there it is. Derek Webb is a Christian singer/songwriter from the states who also fulfills the role of frontman for Caedemon's Call. This song, Wedding Dress is about greed and the desire for God to bless us with riches. Rather than being a punk song that gets angry at false doctrine in others, Webb adresses the issue with humility and a sense of self awareness. The song is beautiful and I strongly reccomend downloading it. Here are the lyrics for you think over...

if you could love me as a wife
and for my wedding gift, your life
should that be all i’ll ever need
or is there more i’m looking for

and should i read between the lines
and look for blessings in disguise
to make me handsome, rich, and wise
is that really what you want

(chorus)
i am a whore i do confess
but i put you on just like a wedding dress
and i run down the aisle
i’m a prodigal with no way home
but i put you on just like a ring of gold
and i run down the aisle to you

so could you love this bastard child
though i don’t trust you to provide
with one hand in a pot of gold
and with the other in your side
i am so easily satisfied
by the call of lovers less wild
that i would take a little cash over your very flesh and blood

Awesome!
That reminds me of Piper's sermon on James 4:4

You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

Piper describes how James paints a picture of us as the bride going to God the groom and asking for some money, to which we prostitute ourselves on another.

Pretty hectic as James is at the best of times, but very convicting regarding the world's blessings and their purpose and relation toward God.

Thanks Dan. Will give me something to ponder this afternoon...
